Home sales rose 8.8% statewide in August and 10.2% over the same month last year, a modicum of good news amidst a tepid market.  52% of those sales were in Southern California.  Meanwhile, bank savings climbed 10% above all of last year despite the lowest interest rates on record. Mixed financial news here and across the pond has lowered confidence and kept many away from home ownership. <p>Here are a few historical facts and ironies.  John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, both signers of the Declaration, became the second and third President of the United States respectively.  Ironically they both died on July 4, 1826, on the 50th anniversary of the signing of the document.  Fifth President James Monroe also died on July 4, five years later in 1831 and thirtieth President Calvin Coolidge was born on July 4, 1872.   </p>
